| Steven Gordon, LCSW specializes in: Child and Adolescent therapy, with an emphasis on positive cognitive process. I am dedicated to: Fostering personal growth and freedom, enhancing interpersonal communication, promoting emotional courage and coping mechanisms, and providing a nurturing and safe environment.
Regardless of why anyone seeks professional guidance, it is always an important decision. Individual therapy has the potential to promote tremendous personal growth and provide freedom from unconscious fears, and external stressors. Marital counseling guides you toward resolving difficult relationship conflicts. Therapy with children and adolescents helps form a stable bond, and allows them to communicate through projective play. In all cases, my focus is on assisting you to achieve greater self awareness, improved communication skills and emotional courage. Therapy can be thought provoking and even frightening, and even speaking about this process as a topic in therapy can be helpful. Please know that you will be accepted and respected exactly as you are. I will support your efforts to change your life in the ways most helpful to you. There is much emphasis on the working therapeutic alliance.
That is my commitment to you, as a therapist.

| | More About Me: I completed my Masters Project on Personal Construct Theory, based on the works of George Kelly. I received my Masters Degree in social work in 1994,and started working for a community mental health center
on Long Island. I learned a great deal from the clinical supervisors,
psychiatrists, and director there. After five years of providing
individual, family and group treatment, I started working at a child, adolescent and family center,
where I provided cognitive-behavioral treatment to a diverse
population, in western Suffolk County. I started a private practice in
1998, and incorporated it with Commack Consultation Center in 2001. Also, in 2001, I started working in Brooklyn, at Safe Horizon
Counseling, a trauma-focused center, working as a senior social worker.
There, I supervised therapists and interns, as well as provided
psychotherapy to children and adults. I am informally studying modern psychoanalysis. Currently I accept most HMO's and third party reimbursement plans. Presently, I am the clinical supervisor at a community mental health center in Queens, New York.
